Welcome to our FAQ! Here, we address common inquiries to help you find the information you need quickly. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to us! 

Does RJH offer septic design services?

We offer septic designs for the customers that we work for but do not, currently, offer third party designs. 

What is the average cost of a new septic system?

The cost of every system can vary greatly as there are many different factors that can play into pricing (eg. number of bedrooms, fixture units and soil type). An average price based on a 3 bedroom home would be around $35,000.00. We are more than happy to provide you with a free quote for your specific project.

How often should my septic tank need pumped?

An average length of time between pumpouts is every 3-5 years. However, every household varies greatly depending on specific usage.

Does RJH offer septic pumping?

We do NOT offer septic pumping services however, we work with a number of reliable local  pumpers who we'd be happy to recommend.

Do you offer emergency septic repairs?

Yes, we are available for emergency repairs and will fix to the best of our ability. It could be that there other, more severe problems going on but we will do our best to help get your system functioning temporarily.

How long does it take to install a new septic system?

A new septic system usually takes about a week from start to finish for the entire installation. Weather and inspections can sometimes factor into this time frame as well as the sizing of an entire system

How do I maintain a septic system during winter?

It is recommended that any service or maintenance to your septic system be done prior to winter. These things may include adding risers and accessible lids, cleaning your effluent filter and getting your tank pumped out.

Do I need permits when putting in a new septic system?

Yes, you will need a permit before installing or doing major repairs to a septic system. When you hire us, this is something that we will complete on your behalf.

What does a 'licensed septic installer' mean?

You must be licensed/registered with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) to legally install, repair or service septic systems. These individuals have completed specific training and have passed their exam. Installers are required to be registered and have a Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) for Septic Systems.

What steps are involved in a new septic or replacement system process?

Step 1: soil sample from 5ft down

(soil analysis required in some areas)

Step 2: septic system drawing

Step 3: permit application 

Step 4: permit approval/issuance

Step 5: construction

How long is the entire process, from start to finish, for a new septic system?

From the time you give us the 'ok' to the time permits are received can usually be completed within about a month. This may vary depending on if other permits (eg. Conservation) are required, etc. The time that we can get in for construction will depend on our existing schedule. however once we are in, construction will usually be about a week.

What are some signs that my septic needs attention?

The following could be signs that your septic system is having troubles or is failing:

  • slow drains

  • gurgling pipes

  • foul spells

  • wet spots in your lawn

  • sewage backups

 

These problems could be an indication that there is a clog, your tank may be full or you might be having issues in your drainfield.

Where can I buy septic systems parts for DIY repairs?

If you are handy and willing to tackle some projects on your own involving your septic system, usually your local hardware store will supply many of the pipes or fittings required. If you are looking for major components like a septic tank or a pump chamber, these can be found at Newmarket Precast or Brooklin Concrete. We advise you to contact us or another licensed professional to help you diagnose and correct your problem.

What excavation services do you offer?

We offer demolition, trenching and basement excavation services in addition to our septic services.

We also after land clearing and gravel driveway installations/repairs.

Do you offer asphalt or driveway sealing?

No, we do not offer asphalt driveways, we offer gravel driveways or recycled asphalt which just has a loose finish. For a finished asphalt driveway, Rosedale Paving and Cameron Paving would be great options.
